Mini-Mover Quilted Slide Sheet
Available in a variety of sizes and used for turning and repositioning patients in bed and for transfer between hospital bed/trolley/examination couch or operating table. Supplied complete with a waterproof cover that can be used independently as a slide sheet.
A quilted fabric cylinder with a friction-free inner surface allows the patient to be transferred or repositioned without the need to lift.
The MINI-MOVER is supplied complete with a waterproof cover, which can be used separately as a sliding sheet (code LOCO-012).
The MINI-MOVER can be used for the following patient-handling tasks:
1) Patient turning.
2) Moving a patient up the bed to a sitting position.
3) Moving a patient from a seated position to the edge of the chair or bed before manual transfer to a standing position.
Instructions For Use:
1) Patient turning:
The MINI-MOVER is placed on the bed with a sheet or draw sheet over the top. The patient lies on the sheet or drawsheet ensuring that both hips and shoulders are over the MINI-MOVER.
a) Turn the patient onto one side, simply take hold of the sheet or drawsheet close to the hips and shoulder and pull firmly outwards and upwards. The patient will roll onto one side and stay in the middle of the bed.
b) To turn the patient onto their back, roll the patient onto their back, take hold of the sheet or drawsheet, and slide the patient back into the middle of the bed.
c) To turn the patient onto the other side, repeat step a.
Note: Although one person can carry out the maneuver quite easily, it is advisable to have someone else on the other side of the bed to prevent the patient from turning too far.
2) Moving the patient up the bed.
With the patient lying flat on the bed, sit the patient up using approved handling techniques and tuck the MINI-MOVER under the buttocks. Alternatively, the patient can be rolled onto the MINI-MOVER before being brought to a sitting position. Again using approved handling techniques, slide the patient back up the bed. If the patient cannot sit upright or has a poor sitting balance, then a sheet can be used on top of the MINI-MOVER. By grabbing the sheet and sliding, the patient can be repositioned whilst still in a near-lying position.
3) Transfer from a chair:
The patient sits on the padded MINI-MOVER with a chair cushion. Instead of shuffling the patient to the edge of the chair for transfer to standing (which can cause shearing to the patient’s buttocks and twisting of the nurse's/carer's back), the patient is slid forward to the edge of the chair. This procedure is also valid for taking a patient off a bed.
Note: Only suitable for those patients who can maintain a good sitting balance.
4) Independent transfer:
The MINI-MOVER is ideal for use by people who wish to maintain their independence but generally require some assistance to transfer themselves. The MINI-MOVER can be used independently to transfer from bed to chair, wheelchair, or commode, and back up the bed to a sitting position.
